Welcome to SCRAP DC!What is SCRAP? We are a 501(c)(3) whose main focus is a retail store. Think of it as a thrift shop for artists and crafters. We do loads of other programming, too. Check us out:
Where: 52 O Street NW DC 20001 Basement Unit L2
When: Thursdays noon-8
First Fridays each month 6-9pm -- next up 7/5
Third Saturdays each month 10a-1p -- next is 7/20
Name another place in DC where you can buy fabric at $2/yard. Just try to beat artist-quality paint brushes starting at 10¢. But: does the mere thought of "getting crafty" make you break out in hives? We've got stuff for you, too! A full roll of gift wrap is just 50¢, for instance, and we've also got containers, some toys and games, even office supplies. Pay by cash, check or charge.
We also do craft fairs, informational talks, workshops, and more, all run on volunteer power! Want to join us? We're holding more volunteer orientation sessions for those interested. If you'd like to work in the store or at one of our off-site events, prepare to join us by filling out our complete online form and we'll get back to you. Students, complete your service learning hours -- sign up here.
Directions & map -- Use Metro's red line to get to the New York Ave stop and walk west and north to 52 O. Take the steps going down from the sidewalk and ring our doorbell to alert us that you've arrived. Shop, plan a SCRAPpy project, and see examples of creative reuse. If you'll provide some notice before bringing kids over, we'll make sure it's safe for those 6 and up. However, we recommend leaving younger kids at home.
Our mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to local communities. We've saved over 5 TONS of "scrap" from reaching local waste streams. Here's a short list of stuff we still need. Your donations are fully tax-deductible.
